The Institut de la Màcula in El Mundo newspaper29/10/2013 · News
Spain’s El Mundo newspaper today published an article on the Institut de la Màcula in a new special issue titled La Gran Vida. This provides information about age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of sight loss in the elderly and one of the ocular pathologies which concerns the Institut and into which it conducts research.
“Each year, 26,000 cases of age-related macular degeneration are diagnosed in Spain. This degenerative disease is the leading cause of sight loss in the elderly, leaving them unable to read, write or drive. The treatment with intraocular injections performed since 2005 by clinics like the Institut de la Màcula in Barcelona have represented a real revolution in controlling one of the two variants of this disease.”
The Institut de la Màcula aims to use the article to inform the population about both AMD and the recent research which Dr. Monés and his team have been undertaking at their centre.
