Complications of cataracts and intraocular lens dislocation

Cataratas

Secondary intraocular lens implant surgery is performed when it is necessary to implant a lens different from those commonly used in cataract surgery. This need may arise due to early cataract complications, which are usually caused by complex surgeries. It may also result from late intraocular lens complications, such as subluxation or complete dislocation into the vitreous cavity. It can also be caused by late opacification of the lens.

Symptoms

The symptoms of a subluxation or complete dislocation of an intraocular lens range from partial to complete loss of vision in the affected eye, as the eye loses the dioptric power provided by the lens. This also applies to eyes that have undergone complicated cataract surgery where the intraocular lens could not be implanted (aphakia).
