Monovision is a technique in which the dominant eye is corrected for distance vision, and the non-dominant eye is corrected for near vision. This procedure maintains mild myopia in the eye for near vision, allowing good combined vision with both eyes for both distance and near tasks, independent of glasses.
This is achieved by calculating the powers of the monofocal lenses to provide good distance vision and adequate near vision binocularly.
Monovision can also be achieved using LASIK (lamellar surgery) or PRK (surface surgery) techniques. This is known as advanced monovision.
