It is very important to treat Meibomian gland dysfunction as soon as it is diagnosed, even if the patient is asymptomatic, since this dysfunction causes blockage, atrophy, or inflammation of these glands, which are responsible for secreting the outer layer of the tear film. If this lipid layer decreases, the tear evaporates more quickly and leaves the eye less protected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the treatment of the Meibomian glands, we use intense pulsed light therapy combined with glandular massage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Intense pulsed light technology is applied to the skin of the periocular area, around the eyes and eyelids. These impulses stimulate circulation and the nerve endings of the entire area. With this treatment, the Meibomian glands increase their secretions, inflammation decreases, and eye lubrication improves. This is an outpatient treatment consisting of 3 sessions of approximately 15 minutes each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
