They are hemorrhages that occur in the space located beneath the retina. The visual prognosis of subretinal hemorrhages, also known as retinal hemorrhages, is highly variable depending on the cause and the time elapsed between diagnosis and treatment.
The most frequent cause is age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Sudden or progressive loss of visual acuity.
Despite the poor prognosis of this problem, current therapeutic options, through vitrectomy, the combination with an anti-VEGF drug, the pneumatic displacement technique of the hemorrhage by intravitreal gas injection, and the subretinal injection of tissue plasminogen activator, achieve very positive results and prevent the severe irreversible visual consequences that the toxicity of the blood accumulated under the retina causes in a short period of time. Rapid action is required.
