Viral conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the conjunctiva, which is the mucous membrane that lines the inside of the eyelids and extends to the front part of the eyeball. The cause is usually viruses, bacteria, or allergies.

Symptoms
The patient usually presents with redness, photophobia, eyelid inflammation, tearing, and, depending on the cause, conjunctival discharge in bacterial cases, enlarged lymph nodes in viral ones, inflammation of the eyelid margin in irritation-related or allergic cases. They usually last between one and three weeks, although if the conjunctivitis is severe, the patient may have sequelae for a longer period.
Conjunctivitis is highly contagious, which is why it is very important to wash hands thoroughly with soap after touching the infected eye.
